Above photos show A-6Es of VA-42 "Green Pawns" photographed at NAS.El Centro on the open day in March 1990.
As you can see from the photos, they were painted in low-visibility paint scheme with darker grey markings over the lighter gray surfaces.
VA-42 was the East Coast FRS squadron (stationed at NAS Oceana) for flight crews and maintenance people en route to Fleet assignments in the A-6 Intruder.
The unit was disbanded in September 1994.

1990年3月のエルセントロのエアショーで撮影したVA-42のA-6Eです。
ロービジ塗装機ですが、マーキングのグレーが機体色のグレーに対してかなり明度差の大きい濃いグレーだったので、写真映りはなかなかイイです。
当日は一般公開日でしたが、公開エリアがロープ等でちゃんと仕切られておらず、それを良いことに通常のエプロンまで歩いて行き撮った写真です。
５〜６機のVA-6E（全てVA-42）がそこのエプロンに並んでいました。同隊は4年半後の1994年9月に解散しました。

Above photo shows an A-6A of VA-95 "Green Lizards" which I photographed at NAS.Miramar in August 1975.
I forgot to use Kodachrome film for this aircraft and I only took black & white shot, unfortunately.
Squadron markings (tip stripes and a trident on the fin and a lizard on the wing tank) were all dark green.
The unit was disestablished in October 1995.

1975年にミラマーの列線で撮影したVA-95（USS.Coral Sea）のA-6Aです。
かなり興奮していたせいか、何故かこの機をカラースライドで撮っていません。
この当時は白黒（ネオパンF）とカラー（Kodachrome 25）を別々のカメラに入れて撮っていましたが、
かなり興奮してくると、どの機をどっちのフィルムで撮ったのか混乱してしまい、カラーでの撮り忘れが時々起こりました。
でも悔しいです。モデックスの"532"（三十番台）は珍しいかも知れません。

この日はフライトライン内での撮影許可を取って来日した英国の飛行機マニアグループのガイド役名目で基地内に入れてもらいました。
同隊のイントルーダーが一番輝いていた時代のマーキングです。

Top and middle photos were taken at Atsugi in November 1976, and the bottom photo was taken at Misawa airshow in October 1978.
Please note the middle and the bottom photos show the same KA-6D(152619/NF-521) in different markings.
Please note also the gray/white radome shown on the top photo (NF-520) while most of the A-6s of the VA-115 at that time carried off-white radomes.

いずれもVA-115のKA-6Dですが、上と中段の２枚は1976年11月に厚木で撮影し、下段の写真は1978年の三沢航空祭で撮りました。
中段と下段の写真には同じKA-6D（152619/NF-521）が写っていますが、この約2年間でマーキングが大きく変わっています。
また、最上段の機体のレドームは上半分がグレーに塗装されていますが、この当時の同隊のA-6はその大半が白（クリーム？）のレドームを付けていたと思います。

These photos show A-6Es of VA-115 in low visibility paint scheme.
Top photo was taken at Yokota open day in 1987, while the bottom photo was taken at Hamamatsu airshow in 1995.
Please note the A-6E 155659 NF-504 shown on the bottom photo was assigned to the "USS.Independence" as the USS.Midway was replaced by the USS.Independence in 1991.
A buddy refueling store is present on the centerline station on the top photo.

いずれもロービジ後のVA-115のA-6Eですが、上の写真は1987年の横田公開日、下の写真は1995年の浜松航空祭で撮影しました。
上段の写真の当時が一番面白くない最悪のマーキング時代だったと思います。
下段の写真当時にはマーキングのグレーが機体のライトグレーよりかなり明度差がある濃い目のグレーなので、写真映りは良くなりました。
しかも尾翼にはロービジながらも昔のマーキング･デザインが復活しています。母艦名は"USS.Independence"に変わっています。

These photos show A-6As of VA-145 "Swordsmen" which I photographed at Miramar(top) and at Alameda(bottom) in August 1975.
This was the most colorful marking of the VA-145, which I like very much.
Please note the difference in paint scheme of the radomes (including anti-glare panel) between these two aircraft shown above.

VA-165's "Boomers" had colorful tail markings in the 1974-75 time frame.
This is the CAG aircraft, and has a multi-colored chevron as part of the unit markings on the tail.
I took these photos at NAS.Miramar in August 1975.

This is the CAG aircraft of the VA-165 when I took these photos at New Orleans airshow in November 1996.
The CAG markings on the tail fin was so colorful even though the aircraft was painted in low-visibility paint scheme overall.
Please note the carrier name "USS Nimits" on the fuselage side.

かなり昔のことなので良く覚えていませんが、本機はしっかりタイダウンされていることから、
かなりの期間ここに駐機していたのかも知れません。
何かの整備とか改修のためどこかから運び込まれた機体のように思われます。
ラダーに並ぶマルチカラーのスペードがいいです。キャノピーの後ろには飛行隊のインシグニア（オレンジの円内に黒のスペード）が見えます。

A-6E "155638"(VK-4) at left still retained the "bicentennial" markings on the tail.
Please note the difference (1) in the shape of anti-glare panel and (2) in the color of refueling probe between these two aircraft shown above.

同じ写真を撮られた方も沢山おられると思いますが、いずれも横田の公開日に撮影したVMA(AW)-121 "Green Knights"のA-6Eです。
下段写真及び左の小写真は1977年7月の撮影ですが、前年の建国200年記念マーキングがまだ残されています。
これら2機を比較すると、アンチグレアの形状や空中給油プローブの色（黒とライトグレー）が異なっており、プラモを作る時は要注意ですね。

Above photo shows A-6E 155598 "DT-10" of VMA(AW)-242, which I photographed at Tsuiki airshow in November 1980.
The squadron was stationed at MCAS Iwakuni near Tsuiki at that time.
Some JASDF T-33As and F-104Js are seen in the background.
Please note the blue paint on both ends(front & tail) of the fuel tank under the wing.
The refueling probe on the nose was painted in black.

1980年の築城航空祭に地上展示されたVMA(AW)-242のA-6Eです。遠影には一空団のT-33Aや五空団のF-104Jが写り込んでいます。
VMA(AW)-242は1964年から1990年までイントルーダーを運用しておりベトナム戦争でもダナンから多くのミッションをこなしていました。
翼下の増槽タンクの前端と後端がラダーと同じ青に塗られています。受油プローブは黒です。

Above photos show "EA"-coded A-6Es of VMA(AW)-332, which I photographed at MCAS.Iwakuni in November 1976.
They carried very attractive tail markings with the moon painted in two-color gradation of yellow(top) to orange(bottom).
As shown on the bottom photo, the squadron nickname "Moonlighters" was also painted in two-color gradation of yellow(top) to orange(bottom) on the fuselage side.
Please note that they carried fuel tanks with different paint scheme.....
white overall on the EA-02(top photo), white with dark blue nose and tail on EA-12(middle) and white with lighter blue nose on EA-10(bottom)
Please note also that the EA-12(middle) and EA-10(bottom) did not have three white stars on the tail markings.
Most likely, they added the white stars later.
A TA-4F of H&MS-12(coded "WA") is seen in the background on the top photo, and a C-117D of H&MS-17(coded "SZ") is seen in the background on the middle photo.

1976年11月に岩国で撮影したVMA(AW)-332 "Moonlighters"のA-6Eです。
小生はこの時代の同隊マーキングがイントルーダーのマーキングの中で一番気に入っていました。
中段写真のEA-12と下段のEA-10では尾翼マーキングがまだ未完成のようで、上段写真のEA-02に見られる三つの白星が尾翼に描かれていません。
下段写真に示す通り、部隊ニックネームの"Moonlighters"も黄色からオレンジのグラデーションで胴体側面に描かれています。
何故か同隊の増槽タンクには色々な塗装バリエーションがありました。真っ白だけのEA-02（上写真）、前後端を濃紺に塗ったEA-12（中）、前端だけを明るめの青に塗ったEA-10（下）などです。
また、上段写真の遠影にはH&MS-12（WA）のTA-4Fが、そして中段写真の背景にはH&MS-17（SZ）のC-117Dが写り込んでいます。

Above photos show A-6Es of VMA(AW)-332 in grey/white paint scheme with white markings, which I photographed in 1979.
The A-6E shown on the top photo was displayed at Hyakuri airshow under beautiful weather.
VMA(AW)-332 used three-digit modex (nose #) in the range of "35x" to "36x" during 1979 and
the three white stars were painted on the rudders this time.
Please note the "EA-364" carried the off-white radome.

既に低視認性塗装の波が押し寄せており、派手な部隊マークは姿を消してしまいました。
でもまだ国籍マークはフルカラーで残されており、その後のロービジ暗黒時代に比べればまだマシな時代でした。
この当時同隊は三桁のモデックスになっており、どうやら350代と360代を使っていたようです。
また、尾翼のマークから三日月は消え、三つの白星もラダーに移りました。
下段写真のEA-364は白い（クリーム色？）レドームを付けています。

Above photos show A-6Es of VMA(AW)-332 in low-visibility paint scheme, which I photographed in 1985.
Both A-6Es were displayed at airshows on the static line at Iwakuni(top) and at Misawa(bottom).
Tail marking design in 1985 (as shown above) is very similar to the one used in 1976 (as shown previously) even though all beautiful colors had been faded out completely.
Notice the squadron(Polkadots) insignia shown on the bottom portion of the rudder painted in darker gray.

The colorful CAG aircraft for VAQ-136 163890 was displayed at Atsugi airshow in May 1996.
The aircraft was assigned to USS.Independence, which replaced with USS.Midway in 1991.
A KANJI(chinese) character appeared on the nose of the redome in yellow means "Attack" in Japanese language.
Please note the red/white/blue markings of "NAVY", "VAQ-136" and "USS Independence" appeared on the rear fuselage side,
which reminded me of the "Bicentennial markings" appreared back in 1976.

多くのモデラーの皆さんも同じような写真を撮られたと思いますが、これは1996年の厚木公開日に展示されていたVAQ-136のCAG機です。
後部同隊側面に描かれたNAVY、USS.Independence、VAQ-136のマーキングは赤・白・青に塗り分けられており、1976年に良く見られたバイセン・マークを思い出させます。

このCAG機はVAQ-137 "Rooks"のEA-6Bです。2008年のネリス・エアショーに地上展示された機体です。
カラフルなマーキングは有りませんが、翼端のエアブレーキを白黒の市松模様に塗り、黒塗りのラダーと合わせて素晴らしいCAG塗装機でした。
一番目を引いたのはノーズアートの"Rookie"で、唯一の色付きマークでした。
