Above photos show A-7Es of VA-146 "Blue Diamonds" which were photographed at NAS.Lemoore in August 1975.
"NG-300"(top photo) was the CAG aircraft for VA-146, however this CAG aircraft did not carry any special CAG markings at all unfortunately.
Please note....(1) the blue nose on the TER(Triple Ejector rack) under the wing, and (2) the blue diamond stripe painted on the wing tip(upper surface only).
VA-146 "Blue Diamonds" transitioned from the A-4C to the A-7B in 1968, and upgraded to the A-7E in 1970.

上段写真の"NG-300"はダブルナッツ機ですが、残念ながらCAG機らしいカラフルなマーキングは一切無く、通常機と全く同じマーキングでした。
主翼下のパイロンに吊るされたTER(Triple Ejector rack)の前端は両機共に青で塗装されています。
また主翼上面の両端部に描かれた青ダイヤの帯はプラモデル上でとても映えると思います。
同隊は1968年にA-4CからA-7Bに機種改編を行い、70年にはA-7Eにアップグレードしています。
VA-146がホーネット飛行隊（F/A-18C、VFA-146）に改編されたのは1989年でした。

VA-146 switched to the Hornet squadron(VFA-146) with F/A-18C four years after this photo (in 1989).

Above photos show a CAG aircraft(A-7E) for VA-147 "Argonauts" which I photographed in August 1975.
Top photo was taken at NAS.Lemoore and I coincidentally photographed the same CAG aircraft at NAS.Miramar four days later as shown on the bottom photo.
Please note the name "City of Sacramento" painted in black with gold shadow immediately below the air refueling probe on the starboard side.

上段写真の"NG-400"はNAS.LemooreのVA-147のフライトラインで撮影しましたが、そのわずか四日後にミラマーへ外来機として飛来し、偶然にもそこで再び撮影出来ました。
太陽光線の関係で左右両側面を順光で撮れたこともラッキーでした。
機首給油プローブの直ぐ下に"City of Sacramento"の文字が金色の影付き黒で描かれていました。
最も、RとAの部分にあるパネルが別機のものと取り替えられており、文字が一部欠けています。

Above photos show A-7Es of VA-147 "Argonauts" which I photographed at NAS.Lemoore in August 1975.
Top photo "NG-401" was a CO's aircraft of the squadron and white stencils of "CO" appeared on the red fin cap.
Notice the squadron insignia(yellow disc) applied on the tail of the CO's aircraft.
All the A-7Es of this squadron carried various city names on each aircraft on the starboard side immediately below the refueling probe.
The A-7E of "NG-405" shown on bottom photo carried the name "City of Visalia", which is 35 miles east of NAS.Lemoore, on the nose.
Please note all the aircraft had "black" noses.

まだ隊長機だけには尾翼に飛行隊のインシグニア（黄色っぽい円）が描かれていました。
また同隊の機体には全機の機首右側面に色々な市の名前が描かれていました。
最下段の写真（白黒）の機体には"City of Visalia"（リモアの東約55km）の名前が描かれています。
同飛行隊所属機は全機『黒鼻』でした。

USS.Oriskany was in port at Yokosuka in October 1970 and the ship was opened to the public on Sunday October the 25th.
It was raining early in the morning, but fortunately enough the weather improved when I got on board.
Above photos show A-7As of VA-153 "Blue Tail Flies" aboard USS.Oriskany.
Tail fin was painted in light blue and white with the tail code "NM" in black shadowed with white.

いずれも1970年10月に横須賀入港中のオリスカニー甲板上で撮影したVA-153 "Blue Tail Flies"のA-7Aです。
この日は一般公開日で、朝は確か雨が降っていたと記憶していますが、甲板に上がった時は天気が回復してきて、時々太陽光線も差し込んできました。
小生はこの当時まだコダクロームIIを使い始めておらず、白黒写真（確かプラスX）しか残っていません。
尾翼は同隊のニックネームにもなっている青ですが、青と言うよりもむしろ水色で、白いスジが二本斜めに入っています。
テールコードの"NM"は白いシャドー付きの黒文字です。

Blue paint used on the tail was much darker this time than their tail marking seen in 1970 shown on previous photos above.

この日の朝は雨が降っていたため、オリスカニーの甲板上は濡れていて所々に水溜りもありました。
その後天気は回復してきましたが、甲板に水溜りが写り込んでいます。
尾翼マーキングはテールコード"NM"も含めて濃いめの緑ですが、白で縁取られています。

Above photo shows an A-7Bs of VA-155 "Silver Foxes" assigned to USS.Oriskany, which I photographed at NAS.Lemoore in August 1975.
The tail markings of the "Silver Foxes" seen in 1975 was exactly the same as their markings used in 1970 depicted previously above with B&W photos.
VA-155 transitioned from the A-4F to the A-7B in 1969, and the unit was disbanded in 1977.
They re-activated as A-6E squadron in 1987.

Above photo shows A-7E of VA-192 "Golden Dragons" in low-visibility paint scheme, which I photographed at Iwakuni airshow held in July 1985.
VA-192 deployed to MCAS.Iwakuni(MAG-12) for six months between June and December 1985 with the tail code "NM".
One of their aircraft was displayed on the static line at the airshow site.
This aircraft was the "Double Nuts", but I did not find any special/colored markings at all.

これは1985年夏の岩国公開日（チビヤン？）に展示されたVA-192"Golden Dragons"のA-7Eです。
同隊は1985年の6月から12月の半年間岩国に派遣されてきたものですが、NMのテールコードと"Golden Dragon"のマーク（勿論金色ではなく灰色ですが）を尾翼に付けていました。
一応ダブルナッツ機（#300）ですが、特別のマーキングや色付きマークは一切見られず、全く面白くないです。
因みに、同隊は岩国から帰国後直ぐにF/A-18Aに機種改編されて、その後ミッドウェー（厚木）にやって来たので、日本のマニアには大変お馴染みとなりました。

Above photos show A-7Bs of VA-215 "Barn Owls" assigned to USS.Oriskany, which were on final at NAS.Atsugi in November 1972.
The tail marking on the rudder was green, and the squadron insignia applied on the forward fuselage side was also green.
Please note....(1) the Owl's face painted in green on the nose, and (2) the refueling pod seen under the left wing on the "NM-402"(bottom photo).

いずれも厚木のファイナルで1972年11月に撮影したVA-215 "Barn Owls"のA-7Bです。
当時はコダクロームII（ASA25）フィルムをちょうど使い始めた時期でしたが、動きのある被写体にはASA25がちょっとキツイので白黒フィルムで撮影しました。
部隊マーク（尾翼マークや飛行隊インシグニア）は全て緑で、機首にフクロウの顔が描かれていました。
下段写真の"NM-402"は左翼に空中給油ポッドをぶら下げています。

These photos show A-7Bs of VA-215 "Barn Owls" parked on the flight line at NAS.Lemoore in August 1975.
Top photo depicts the CAG bird for the VA-215 with multi-colored marking on the rudder.
The left outboard wing of the "NM-404" (middle photo) was somewhat folded on the half way.
VA-215 converted from the A-1J/H to the A-7B in 1968 and was disbanded in 1977, it was only two years after I took the above photos.

VA-215は1968年にA-1J/HからA-7Bに機種改編されましたが、その後の活動期間は比較的短くて、1977年には解散となりました。
それは上の写真を撮ってからわずか2年後のことでした。

These photos show A-7As of VA-303 "Golden Hawks" which I photographed at their home base NAS.Alameda in August 1975.
They were Naval Air Reserve squadron operated under the CVWR-30 with the tail code "November Delta".
A small photo at left depicts their squadron insignia applied on the tail.
VA-303 transitioned from the A-4L to the A-7A in 1971.
The squadron up-graded to the A-7B in 1977 and became a Hornet(F/A-18A) squadron in 1985.

予備役飛行隊VA-303のA-7Aをホームベースのアラメダで1975年8月に撮影しました。
小写真は尾翼に描かれていた同隊のインシグニアですが、近在の金門橋とおぼしき橋のシルエットが赤と白で描かれています。
また、前から見たF4Uコルセアの逆ガル翼の白いシルエット（の様なもの）がこのインシグニアの上に見えます。
恐らく運用中のコルセアIIの『II』を左右逆ガル翼の間に挟んだデザインだと思います。
VA-303は1971年にA-4LからこのA-7Aに機種改編を行いました。
その後1977年にはA-7Bへアップグレードをはかり、1985年にはホーネット（F/A-18A）飛行隊となりました。

The second Pacific Fleet reserve VA-squadron is VA-304 "Firebirds".
One of their first CAG aircraft was this A-7A 153171 which I photographed at NAS.Alameda in August 1975.
The colored shadowing of the stylized "ND" tail code represented the CAG markings.
Notice the name "PEGASUS", painted in black, and the red flash on the main gear door.

西海岸予備役の二番目の飛行隊がこのVA-304 "Firebirds"です。
写真のA-7A（153171）は当時のCAG機で、1975年8月に同隊のホームベースであるアラメダで撮影しました。
同隊のA-7Aには、その殆どの機体にパーソナル・ネームが付けられて、主脚ドアに黒字で描かれていました。
このCAG機には"PEGASUS"と書き込まれています。
また、同隊ではCAG機だけがフィンキャップとラダーを白く塗り、フィンキャップにはオレンジ色のナットが二つ描かれています。
CAG機のモデックスのゼロゼロをナットの形にして描いたものですが、これが通称ダブルナッツと呼ばれる言葉の語源となりました。

These photos show A-7As of VA-304 seen at NAS.Alameda in August 1975.
Each and every aircraft carried its personal name in black on the main gear door as shown on the above photos.
Please note that the fin cap was painted in either red(many) or orange(only some),
and the pilot name plate immediately above the refueling probe was also painted in either red or orange, as shown on the above photos.
VA-304 transitioned from the A-4L to the A-7A in 1971.
The squadron up-graded to the A-7B in 1977 and became an Intruder(KA/A-6) squadron in 1988.

前述の如く全ての所属機には主脚ドアにパーソナルネームが描かれています。
"ND-410"（最上段写真）のラダーのマーキング（と言うか『デザイン』）は他の機と比べて『く』の字の形が太めになっています。
また、ラダーの色使いはCAG機の場合と逆転しており、一般機はラダーの地色が赤で、『く』の形が白になっています。
フィンキャップと給油プローブ上の搭乗員ネームプレート（細長い菱形）の色は統一されていませんが、赤（多い）もしくはオレンジ（少ない）のどちらかに塗られています。
VA-304はVA-303と同様に1971年にA-4LからこのA-7Aに機種改編を行いました。
その後1977年にはA-7Bへアップグレードをはかり、1988年からはイントルーダー（KA/A-6）飛行隊となりました。

Above photo shows a TA-7C of ex-NAWC Aircraft Division, which already carried the AMARC inventory # of "6A415" on the fuselage side, immediately above the "NAVY".
I photographed this aircraft at Davis Monthan airshow in April 1993.
This aircraft was later transferred to Greek Air Force, and it crashed after engine failure on 09DEC99. Both crew ejected OK.

本機は1993年のデビスモンサン・エアショーに展示された元Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft DivisionのTA-7Cです。
既にAMARC（DMに隣接のボーンヤード）の管理番号"6A415"が胴体側面（NAVYの直ぐ上）に白で書き込まれています。
同機はその後AMARCを出て現役復帰となり、ギリシャ空軍で運用されましたが、09DEC99にエンジン・トラブルで墜落し抹消されました。乗員は無事脱出したそうです。

Thunderbird Aviation used to operated two TA-7Cs during the early/mid-1990's. They were N164TB(above) and N165TB(below).
N164TB was in older USN color scheme with light gull grey on upper surfaces and white under surfaces with a yellow "RESCUE"
arrow and red triangles of "ejection seat". Whereas, N165TB was in low-visibility grey scheme. After the bankruptcy of TAI,
both TA-7C were returned to USN and sent to the boneyard at DM. After some time, both TA-7Cs were delivered to Greek Air Force
and painted in camouflage, standard Greek AF camo which is similar to the USAF's Vietnam camouflage. They may still fly in Greece.
Thunderbird Aviation, Inc.社（以下TAI社と略）は９０年代なかばに２機のTA-7Cを運用していました。上の写真のN164TBと下の写真のN165TBです。各々のBuNo.は各写真
の右上欄をご覧ください。面白いことに基本塗装が異なる２機が集められました。N164TB（上）は昔のハイビジ時代のガルグレイ
と白ですが、N165TB（下の写真）は全面グレーのロービジスキームです。TAI社倒産後、２機のTA-7CはUSNに戻されてDMのボーンヤード
でしばらく保管されていました。その後(2000年頃？)両機はギリシャ空軍に引渡され、迷彩塗装(USAFのﾍﾞﾄﾅﾑ迷彩に類似)を施して
現役に復帰しました。両機のギリシャ空軍での写真はネットで確認できました。

The above photo is a TA-7C "N164TB" in low-visibility paint scheme. The tail fin had a black vertical line in the above photo,
but it was not a painted stripe. I was just a shadow of a street light near by. Noticeable addition on the TAI's TA-7C was a
blade antenna (painted in white) immediately after the rear canopy. However, it was removed in the Greek service.
上の写真はロービジの方のTA-7Cです。垂直尾翼上に縦方向に見える黒い線はマーキングではなく近くの街灯の影です。TAI社が
運用している２機のTA-7Cに共通する外観上の特徴は、後部キャノピーの直ぐ後ろの白いブレードアンテナです。しかし、ギリシャ
空軍に移ってからは、このアンテナが取り外されていることが写真で確認できます。
