I have very limitted numbers of photo of the USAF/ANG's "Century Jets" in active service, because I seriously started taking photos of military aircraft in 1970,
and many of the Century Jets had already been withdrawn from service by that time. I did photograph a few F-102s at Yokota during 1969-1970,
but unfortunately I was not able to find any black & white negatives of them from my old photo boxes. Anyway, the quantity is limitted,
but I hope you can still enjoy my old photos.
小生には現役状態でのセンチュリー・ジェットを撮影する機会がほとんど有りませんでした。1969年頃から本格的に写真を撮り始めましたが、
その時点で既に極東地区からセンチュリー・ジェットはほとんど姿を消していました。横田で何回かF-102を撮った記憶は残っているのですが、
小生の写真（ネガ）管理が悪くて紛失しました。
てなことで、このページの中身は残念ながら非常に乏しい内容です。スミマセン。

I visited Mojave for more than ten times in 1990, and I often found QF-100s parked on the ramp in front of the Tracor/Flight Systems' hangar.
They undertook conversions for the QF-100 at that time, and for some reasons most of the QF-100 I did see at Mojave in 1990 were not QF-100D but QF-100F (two seater).
Please note a QF-100F(#417) shown on the bottom photo was painted in green camouflage overall.
モハービ空港のTracor/Flight Systems社ハンガー前に並べられたQF-100群です。同社はQF-100の改造作業を請け負っていたため、1990年当時はモハービでよくQF-100を見掛けました。
多い時には十数機が並んでいました。何故か当時見たQF-100はその殆んど（全てかも）が複座のQF-100Fでした。一番下の写真に写る417号機は緑二色の全面迷彩を施していて珍しいと思い写しました。

In the background, you can find a TF-104G of West German AF taxing for another training mission.
1975年8月にルークAFBの外来機ランプで撮影したノースダコタANG（178FIS/119FIG）のF-101Bです。モデラーとして気になるのは、
エアクラフトグレーの機体としては珍しくかなり激しい退色が胴体に認められます。
背後に西独空軍のTF-104Gが離陸のためタキシングしていくのが見えます。

I took these photos on the transit ramp at Luke AFB (next to the F-101B depicted above) in August 1975.
This aircraft did not carry any unit markings nor even a state name on the fin, but I believed it was operated by the MS.ANG.
Please note on the top photo......dark green paint was in matt finish while the (lighter) green was in satin finish.
It's an interesting difference for modelers.
上に掲載したF-101Bの隣りに駐機していたミシシッピー州ANGのRF-101Cです。州名はどこにも表示されていませんが、
1975年8月時点でRF-101Cを装備していたのはミシシッピー州ANGだけと思われるので、そのように判断しました。
撮影当日にエスコートしてくれた広報の人が説明してくれたのですが、38年前のことなので今では思い出せません。
モデラーとして気になるのは二色の緑色のツヤの違いです。
上段の写真を見ると、濃い緑は完全にツヤが消えているのに、薄い方の緑はかなり太陽光を反射して輝いています。
又、下の写真を見ると、F-101BとRF-101Cのエンジンの違いが良く見比べられます。

I took these photos at Luke AFB in August 1975.
Top photo shows a highly "polished" F-104G (#13243) of the German training unit. Nose and tail portions of the wing tank were painted in white.
This was the most beautiful F-104 seen at Like at that time. I greatly regret that I lost a Kodachrome slide of this beautiful jet.
This a/c was later transferred under MAP to ROCAF with new serial "4368" and operated by the 42nd Sqdn at Tao-Yuan. Sadly, it crashed on 24MAR90.
Weather suddenly went bad during a TACAN approach and crashed in formation with "4385" at Hsin-Chu, Tao-Yuan after mid-air collision.
The bottom photo shows a flight line of the German F-104G at Luke.
Please note......
the tail portions of the wing tank and the dart target under the wing were painted in orange/red.
This a/c (#22517) was also transferred to ROCAF under MAP. The ROCAF serial was "8230".
上段の白黒写真は当時ルークで一番輝いていたF-104Gです。カラースライドでも写したはずなのに紛失してしまったのがとても残念です。
白黒写真でもおわかりの通り、胴体は鏡のように磨き込まれています。また、磨き込まれた翼端タンクの前端と尾部は白に塗られていて、
黒か紺の細いストライプが入っています。同機はその後台湾空軍に供与され"4368"のシリアルで桃園の42sqdnで飛んでいました。
しかし、24MAR90に"4385"号機と編隊で桃園にアプローチしていた時に、悪天候のため空中接触を起こし墜落し失われました。
下段写真は当時の典型的なルークの列線写真です。マニアには嬉しいことに、翼端タンクの尾部及び吊り下げたダート標的の後ろ半分が
派手な赤オレンジに塗られています。同機もその後台湾空軍に引き渡されて新しいシリアル"8230"を与えられています。

Sadly, it crashed in Taiwan on 04SEP87 and lost.
何も目立ったマーキングの無いTF-104Gです。砂漠の真夏の猛暑とエプロンの照り返しで大変辛かったことを思い出します。
そこに何の目立ったマーキングも無いF-104が四〜五十機並んでいても、撮影する意欲が全く湧きません。
一応ルークに来た証拠写真として、TF-104Gも二機程度撮影しただけでした。その内の１枚です。
当機もその後台湾空軍に引き渡されて新しいシリアル"5770"を与えられましたが、04SEP87に事故で失われています。
元ルークのF-104の内、かなり沢山の機体が台湾空軍に供与されたようです。
そんなことなら、もっと頑張って他の機体も出来るだけ沢山撮影すれば良かったです。

(above 2 pohotos) The above photos show a F-105D ZA-248 displayed at Komaki airshow held in October 1971.
It was flown from Kodena (18TFW), Okinawa, and the fin stripe was yellow.
This aircraft later served with 456TFS (AFRES) at Tinker and crashed on 12AUG74.
小牧の国際航空宇宙ショーに展示された12TFS/18TFWのF-105Dです。
現役のFｰ105を写した唯一の写真がこんな人ごみの中の白黒写真とはとても残念です。
せめてANG/AGRESのF-105の基地を訪問しておけばよかったです。
因みに、本機はその後ティンカーの456TFS(AFRES)に配属されましたが、12AUG74に墜落事故で失われました。

These photos show F-106A/B of 84th FIS based at Castle AFB in California.
Unfortunately, many of the ADC squadrons had policy at that time NOT to carry colorful squadron markings on their aircraft,
so the 84FIS aircraft only carried a 84FIS badge on the portside and the ADC badge on the starboard side on the fin.
いずれも1975年に加州キャッスルAFBで写した84FISのF-106AとBです。
残念ながら当時（一時的ですが）ADCの多くの部隊からカラフルな部隊マークは一掃されて、マニア的には面白くない『暗黒の時代』でした。
そのポリシーは短期間で撤回されて、84FISでも数年後には赤白紺の派手な稲妻形尾翼マークが描かれました。
当時キャッスルAFBの主人はSACのB-52/KC-135部隊でした。よって、他の基地よりかなり厳しい撮影制限がありました。
写してはいけない施設が指定されて、好きな角度でF-106の写真が撮れません。しかもA型とB型一機づつしか撮影させてもらえませんでした。

These photos, taken in 1975, show F-106A/B of Calif.ANG (194FIS) based at Fresno, California.
As I mentioned above, many of the F-106 squadrons had policy at that time NOT to carry colorful squadron markings on their aircraft,
so the only colorful marking on the California F-106 was fine red stripes on the wing tanks as shown above.
A few years after this, the Calif.ANG applied a very colorful tail marking, Calif. State flag, on their F-106.
The middle photo shows a F-106B taxing into the Fresno runway 29R.
The bottom photo depicts a pair of F-106 on the runway 29R immediately before taking off.
いずれも1975年に加州フレズノ空港で写したカリフォルニア州空軍のF-106AとBです。
『暗黒の時代』の同隊は上の写真の如く色っぽいマーキングは全く有りません。増槽タンク側面の細く赤いストライプが唯一の色気です。
この数年後には暗黒の時代から黄金の時代に急変し、同隊は尾翼全面に加州の州旗を描くド派手なマーキングに変わりました。
中段の写真はフレズノのRunway 29Rに進入する同隊のF-106Bで、下段の写真はその30〜40秒後の撮影です。
これって滑走路端でホールドしている機体に思いっきり近付いて、標準レンズで撮りました。
この写真を撮ったわずか10〜20秒後にドッカーンときました。機体と小生の距離は50メートルぐらいでしょうか、
アフターバーナ点火時の衝撃で小生は心臓が止まりそうに仰天しました。正直言ってチョット怖かった（Ha-Ha!!)。
