I visited Luke AFB in Arizona for the first time in August 1975.
My main target at that time was "naturally" the F/TF-15A of the 555th TFTS "Triple Nickel", which was the first TAC F-15 squadron formed in November 1974.
As you can see from the photos, the F-15 was painted in "air superiority blue" overall at the beginning.
The above photo shows a TF-15A (re-designated as F-15B later) which was a Wing Commander's jet for the 58th Tactical Fighter Training Wing.
Small white letters immediately below the wind shield were read as "Pilot: B/Gen. Fred A. Haeffner".
Please note the two small red stars below the pilot's name under the wind shield.
As you can see from the photo at left, the aircraft carried multi-colored rudders representing all squadrons controlled under the 58th TFTW.
（上と左写真）1975年8月、初めて行った米国で、初めて行ったルークAFBで、初めて写したF-15がこの写真です。
当時はTAC指揮下にまだF-15飛行隊が一つしかなく、それがLukeで前年（1974年）の11月に編成された555th TFTSでした。
この写真のTF-15A（後年にF-15Bと呼称）は555th TFTSを指揮下に置く58th TFTWの司令官機で、ラダーはLuke所在の全飛行隊の部隊カラーで塗り分けてありました。
コックピット前席脇には白文字で"Pilot: B/Gen. Fred A. Haeffner"と書かれており、その直ぐ下には小さな赤い星が二つ描かれていました。
小生がLukeを訪問した時間帯にちょうど同機がフライトラインに並べられていたのは本当にラッキーでした。
当時F-15は"air superiority blue"と呼ばれる水色で全面を塗装されており、新時代の最新鋭機といった新鮮な印象を受けました。
それが、あれから40年近く経った現在でも第一線で飛んでいるんですから、マニア的にはあまり面白くないですね。

These photo shows F/TF-15A of the 555th TFTS seen on the flight line at Luke in August 1975.
The F-15s carried twin double sided green tail stripes containing five white stars on each surface.
Emblems of the 58th TFTW were shown on both sides of the jet intake.
You can find a couple of F-4Cs seen in the background on the top photo.
You can also find some F-104s seen in the background on the bottom photo.
（上3枚）同じ1975年8月にルークで撮影した水色塗装のTF-15A（上）とF-15A（下）です。同隊（555TFTS）の尾翼ストライプは緑で、その中に白い星が5個描かれていました。
エアインテークの両側面には58th TFTWのエンブレムが描かれていました。
上段の写真の背景にはベトナム迷彩のF-4Cが写っており、また下段写真の背景には西ドイツのF-104が写っていて、時の流れを感じます。

The F-15 Eagle was introduced to the 18th Tactical Fighter Wing at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa in 1979.
The first F-15 squadron was the 67th TFS, and the top photo was taken at Misawa airshow in November 1979 soon after the unit received the F-15s.
Squadron patch of the 67TFS ("Fighting Cocks") is seen on the starboard side of the jet intake.
A total of three squadrons, the 12th/44th/67th, were re-equipped with F-15C/D from the F-4D at Kadena, and they still fly F-15C/D at Kadena under the 18th FW.
Kadena Eagles carried the PACAF emblem on the fin, and the 18TFW emblem on the portside of the jet intake.
The 2nd and the 3rd photos above show F-15Cs of the 67th TFS with red fin stripe.
The bottom photo shows a F-15C of the 12th TFS with yellow fin stripe, which was displayed at Hyakuri airshow in 1981.

最上段の写真は同隊に配備されて間もない頃のF-15Cが1979年の三沢航空祭に飛来した時の映像です。
まだ垂直尾翼上端の赤いフィンストライプが描かれていなかったんですね。
その後嘉手納の三個TFSにF-15が順次配備されて、日本各地の航空祭にしょっちゅう顔を見せていました。
その中から、国籍マークがまだ色付きだった当時（1979-1981）の数枚の写真を選んで上に貼り付けました。

The F-15s participated in the 1982 William Tel Weapons Meet at Tyndall carried attractive tail markings on the aircraft.
They carried colorful triangular fin band together with "Shogun" (Samurai's helmet) marking in dark grey on the inboard side of the twin fins as shown at left.
The outmost band color on the triangular fin marking represented the squadron color of each aircraft
.....for example the outmost band color ("Yellow" on the photo above, or "Red" at left) represented the 12th TFS (for Yellow) or 67th TFS (for Red).
This attracrive fin markings retained even after the "William Tell '82" and became standard markings for the Kadena Eagles for some time.
The PACAF emblem is seen on the upper portion of the fin.

1982年のWilliam Tel Weapons Meetに参加した18TFWのF-15には、スペシャルマーキングが施されていました。
しかし、それがいつしか標準のマーキングになっていたようで、写真に見られるようなF-15が航空祭で見られた時期がありました。
尾翼上端の三色の三角マークの内、一番外側の帯色（左写真では赤）が飛行隊カラーを表していたようで、左写真（赤）では67TFS、上写真（黄色）では12TFSとなります。
写真の通り80年代中頃になると国籍マークが黒の線描きになっています。

(above photo) I took the above photo at Yokota airshow in August 2012.
As you can see from the photo, low visibility paint scheme has been applied on Kadena's F-15s for some time.
"Shogun" marking still retained on the fin (outer side only), but unfortunately it is not clearly recognized on the photo due to the low visibility paint scheme.
The fin stripe was dark blue representing the 44th Fighter Squadron.
（上写真）いきなり最近の写真となりますが、これは二十数年振りに訪れた横田の2012年オープンハウスで写しました。勿論デジタル映像です。
久し振りに見た懐かしい"ZZ"のF-15Cはすっかりロービジ塗装になっていましたが『将軍』マーキングが尾翼に残っていたのは嬉しかったです。
（写真ではほとんど判別できませんが、ZZの少し上です）

I visited Buckley ANGB in Colorado in February 1990 and there were four "TY"-coded F-15As from the 325th Tactical Training Wing (Tyndall) on the transit ramp.
All four F-15s carried red fin stripes representing the squadron color of the 1st TFTS.
I recognized that one of the four carried one white star on the fin stripe and another F-15A carried two white stars on the red stripe.
I did not know the meaning of these stars, but could it mean the commanders' aircraft??
Please note also a grey eagle marking on the inner surface of the fin as shown on the photo immediately above.
（上と左写真）1990年2月にコロラド州空軍のBuckley ANGBを訪問し、これらの写真を撮りました。
訪問時ちょうど四機のF-15AがTyndallの325th Tactical Training Wingから飛来しており、外来機のランプに並んでいました。
いずれも赤のフィン･ストライプを付けていて1st TFTSの所属機とわかりましたが、内１機には二つの、また別の１機には一つの白い星がフィン･ストライプの真ん中に描かれていました。
恐らく隊長機とかそんな意味合いだと思いますが、詳細は聞き忘れました。各機の垂直尾翼内面にはグレーで小さ目のイーグル･マークが描かれていました。

モデラー目線では左側写真に写るスジ状の汚れが気になりました。1/32スケールではこんな汚れもリアルかも。

When I visited Luke AFB on 22NOV92, I was lucky enough to find five or six F-15s of Oregon ANG on the transit ramp.
One of them carried low-visibility tail markings in two tones of grey (inverted grey fashion) as shown on the photo at middle.
On the same photo, please note the "OREG" banner on the inner surface of the left rudder in dark grey.
All the Oregon F-15s carried the ANG badges (in dark grey) on both sides of the jet intakes.

1992年11月にルークAFBを訪問した時、ちょうどオレゴンANGの5〜6機のF-15Aが外来機ランプに駐機していました。
それを撮影しているところに同隊のF-15Bが飛来してきましたが、それが最下段の写真で、後席にはまだクルーが座っています。
駐機していたオレゴンのF-15の内一機（中段写真）だけは尾翼マークがロービジ表示（二色グレーの反転表示）となっていて、
左側方向舵の内側にダークグレーの"OREG(ON)"バナーが見えます。別機の右方向舵を取り付けたのでしょう。
同隊のANGエンブレムはエアインテーク左右側面に付いていました。

The above photo shows a Boss Bird(F-15E) of the 58th Fighter Wing photographed at Luke AFB in November 1992.
At that time, the 58th controlled five fighter training squadrons (461/555FS with F-15E & 310/311/314FS with F-16)
and the unit badges of all these squadrons were shown on the intake side as shown on the photo at left.
At that time, the 58th was controlled under the TAC (note the TAC emblem on the fin),
and please also note.....(1) the shadowed "LF" and "58FW", and (2) the multi-colored fin band on the tail, which represented all unit colors within the 58th FW.

Top photo shows a F-15E for the commanding officer 461st Fighter Sqdn which I photographed in November 1992.
In July 1993, Luke AFB was transferred from TAC to AETC (Air Education and Training Command) control,
and in April 1994, the "58th" Fighter Wing was replaced by the "56th" Fighter Wing.
So, as you can see from the photo immediately above, which was taken in May 1994,
the F-15E of the 461st FS carried the AETC emblem on the fin and the 56th FW badge (shown at left) on the intake side.

Top photo shows a F-15E of the 555th Fighter Sqdn "Triple Nickel" which I photographed in November 1993.
The aircraft still retained the 58th FW emblem, but the AETC emblem was newly applied on the fin.
In April 1994, the "Triple Nickel" was converted to F-16C/D and transferred to Aviano AB in Italy.
In its place the 550th Fighter Squadron "Silver Eagles" was reactivated as an F-15E RTU squadron at Luke in March 1994,
and the 58FW was replaced with the 56FW at the same time.
The photo immediately above shows a F-15E of the 550th FS (C/O's aircraft) with the emblems of the AETC and the 56FW.
The photo at left shows the F-15E (tail only) of the Triple Nickel with the AETC badge taken at Luke in 1993.

上から二枚目の写真は再編成まもない5月にルークで撮影した550FSの隊長機です。
同年4月には58FWが56FWに交代しているので、インテーク脇のエンブレムは56FWのものになっています。
垂直尾翼上端には550FSのニックネームである"Silver Eagles"の表記があります（ちょっと読めませんが）。
最下段の小写真は最上段の189号機（555FS）の尾翼ですが、AETCのエンブレムが見えます。

When I visited Luke AFB in November 1992, a couple of F-15Es from Nellis AFB (57th FW) were parked on the transit ramp.
One of them was a commander's aircraft from the 422nd Test & Eval Squadron as shown above.
Please note the black eagle silhouette on the inner surface of the fin.
The photo at left shows a badge of the 422nd TES applied on the portside of the jet intake.

内一機は422TESの隊長機でしたが、その写真が上の二枚です。最上段の写真を11月21日の午後に撮影し、翌22日の朝に再度ルークを訪問して
下段の写真（機体右面に光が当たっている）を撮りました。垂直尾翼の内側に黒で小さめのイーグルが描かれています。
小写真は同機の左インテーク側面に付いていた422TESのバッジです。白い星が上に四つ、下に二つ二つで"422"を意味しているのでしょう。
これって空自の部隊マークに良くある『意味付け』と同じ発想ですね。

反対側に付いていたのは57FWのエンブレム（小写真参照）です。同機にも垂直尾翼の内側には黒いイーグルのシルエットが描かれています。

The top photo shows the commander's F-15E of the 336th Fighter Sqdn photographed on the transit ramp at Luke AFB in May 1994.
Please note......(1) "SJ" and "336 FS" shadowed in light grey on the fin, (2) the kitty Hawk marking on the inner surface of the fin and
(3) the emblems of the TAC and the 4th Wing applied on the baggage pod under the left wing.
The photo immediately above shows a F-15E of 335th FS, 4th Wing taxing at Smyrna airport in Tennessee for flight display on the airshow in May 2011.
Please note.....(1) the "Let's Roll" patch on the nose, and (2) the 335FS badge "Chiefs" on the left intake side.
The fin band was green outlined in white.

上段の写真は14MAY94にルークAFBの外来機ランプに並ぶ336th FSの隊長機です。隊長機らしく尾翼の"SJ"と"336FS"にはライトグレーの影が入っています。
垂直尾翼の内側にはライト兄弟の動力機が描かれています。これは所在のSeymour Johnson AFBがライト兄弟の初飛行の地であるKitty Hawkに近いからです。
左主翼下のバゲージポッド側面にはTAC及び4th Wingのエンブレムが貼り付けてあります。
二枚目の写真は08MAY11のテネシー州スマーナ空港におけるエアショーでデモ飛行に向けてタキシングする335FSのF-15Eです。
"Let's Roll"のマークを機首に付けています。左エアインテーク脇のエンブレムは335th FS "Chiefs"のものです。
フィンストライプは同隊の部隊カラーである緑ですが、白縁が付いています。
