I was VERY interested in the KA-3B displayed at Oakland
Aviation Museum, because the a/c was displayed with its
wings in FOLDED position and the bomb bay doors in OPEN
position. So, I was able to photograph the details of the wing
fold mechanism and the interior of the bomb bay. According
to the museum explanation, 147666 was built to A3D-2
specifications and delivered to the US Navy in December 1960.
She was converted to KA-3B configurations in June 1967.
In January 1968, the a/c was again reconfigured as an EKA-3B.
In Oct.1974, the a/c was once again reconfigured, this time back
to KA-3B specifications.
このオークランド博物館に展示されているKA-3Bに小生は大変興味を持ちました。その理由はKA-3Bそのものが珍しい
こともありますが、本機が主翼を折り畳んだ状態で展示されていることと、爆弾倉ドアを開けて展示されていること
でした。よって、小生としては初めて翼折り畳み部と爆弾倉内の細部写真を写すことが出来ました。ウルフパックから
は1/72の翼折り畳み部のレジンキットが発売されるらしいので、組立にはこの写真が大いに役立つと思います。博物館
の説明板によると、本機は当初A3D-2として完成し1960年12月に米海軍に納入されました。その後何度も改修され、まず
67年6月にKA-3Bへ、68年１月にEKA-3Bへ、そして最後は74年10月にKA-3Bに戻されました。よって、本機にはEKA-3Bに
一旦装備された胴体左右計４か所のレドームを取り外した跡がはっきり残っています。

I took these walk-around photos of EKA-3B aboard USS.
Midway Museum in San Diego, CA. The a/c was preserved
and displayed in good conditions and it looked so good
when I visited the museum in 2011. I think this is the only
"EKA-3B" still preserved and displayed in the US.
サンディエゴのMidway博物館に展示されているEKA-3B
です。小生が撮影した2011年時点では新たに塗装されて
日が浅いようでとてもきれいな外観でした。保存状態も
良好です。EKA-3Bの展示はここだけだと思います。
