Republic F-105D(G) Thunderchief

#1) F-105D "Early" model (USAF s/n.60-0508)

This F-105D was displayed in grey overall scheme, so you can clearly confirm and study details of panel lines and rivet lines from the photos below. This aircraft retained the early(original) style of the F-105D, so none of the following items were found on this aircraft. (1) Afterburner coolong scoops on the rear fuselage sides, (2) Air refueling receptacle, (3) ECM antenna and aft-facing strike camera under the nose, (4) Fin-top ECM aerials and (5) Hexagonal thick panels on the upper wing surface immediately above the main landing gear struts. I did take clear and sharp photos of upper surface details on the wing, so you can capture good details of the complicated panel lines seen on the wing surfaces. For some reasons, the fuel dump was removed from the rear fuselage of this aircraft. These walk-around photos were taken on the IPMS photo tour to this museum during the 2013 IPMS National Convention, so some access panels and redome were pictured in open positions. コロラド州デンバーの航空博物館に展示されているF-105Dです。本機は迷彩ではなく全面グレーの塗装で展示されているため、パネルラインの詳細を非常に鮮明に確認することが出来ました。又、本機は初期の"D"型仕様をそのまま残しているようで、その後大半のF-105Dがレトロフィットすることになる以下の装備品は、この機体に付いていません。（１）機首下のECMアンテナとストライクカメラ、（２）後部胴体側面のアフターバーナー冷却用スクープ、（３）機首上部のフライングブーム用給油レセプタクル、（４）垂直尾翼上端のアンテナ・フェアリング、（５）主脚直上の主翼上面に付けられた六角形の分厚い補強板。又、何故か尾部下面に付いているはずの燃料ダンプが外されています。以下の細部写真は2013年のIPMS National Conventionで企画された写真ツアーに参加して撮影したものです。よって、レドームやいくつかのアクセスパネル類はツアー幹事さんに開けてもらい撮影することができました。 F-105の細部写真は多くの書籍やネットでも扱われているので、ここでの掲載をためらっていましたが、どれを見ても主翼上面の鮮明な細部写真が見当たらないので、敢えてここに掲載することにしました。

#2) F-105D "Late" model (s/n. 62-4301)

According to the museum website, this aircraft had been operated by the PACAF units for many years during the 1960s and the early 1970s. I did find some photos of this aircraft photographed at Yokota AB in the 1960s when the aircraft was based at Yokota. After returning from the Pacific area, the aircraft was assigned to the 507TFG(AFRES) at Tinker AFB and finally to the 466TFS(AFRES) at Hill AFB in 1980. This aircraft still retained the squadron badge of the 466th TFS on the tail, but most probably it was painted by the museum since this F-105D was repainted in "Lizard" camouflage at the end. It was flown to the museum on 16JAN84.

加州サクラメント郊外の博物館（元マクレランAFB）で撮影したF-105Dの最終仕様機です。博物館の説明資料では、本機は主に太平洋地域（PACAF部隊）で飛んでおり、1964～1968年の間は横田に駐留しています。確かに、当時本機を横田で撮影した写真が確認できます。 1972年に米本土に戻り、その後AFRES部隊に配備されています。まずはティンカーAFB（テールコード"SH"）そして最後の配備先は1980年からヒルAFB（同"HI"）でした。小生が米国のマニアとのスライド交換でいただいたスライドの中に、"SH"と"HI"の同機が写っていました。最後はリザート迷彩でした。てなことで、本機は最後まで生き延びて活躍したF-105Dですので、装備品類は最終仕様になっています。前ページのF-105Dでは時間切れで主翼下面の撮影が出来なかったので、本機で撮った主翼下面の写真も最後に貼り付けました。

#5; "Some photos of Wild Weasel F-105G "
The following photos were taken at "Pima Air and Space Museum" in Arizona and at "Museum of Aviation" in Georgia(the last two photos only). Please note the hexagonal thick panel on the upper wing surface pointed by white arrows on the photos. These hexagonal panels were seen not only on the F-105"G"s but also the late models of the F-105"D".
F-105G Wild Weaselの細部写真も少しだけ貼り付けます。これらはアリゾナ州ツーソンの"Pima Air and Space Museum"とジョージア州ロビンスAFB近くの"Museum of Aviation"（最後の二枚のみ）で撮影しました。最初の5枚は主翼上面の写真ですが、白い矢印で示す六角形の補強板を見ていただく為に掲載しました。前ページの初期型F-105Dには付いていないからです。この補強板はF-105Gのみならず、F-105Dにも途中からレトロフィットされています。主脚取付け部の真上の位置です。プラモではとても目立つので確認が必要ですが、ベトナム迷彩にテールコードを付けたF-105Dにはだいたい付いていると思います。
