F-14B/D Tomcat

I decided to build a Tamiya's F-14A in 1/32 scale at the beginning of 2008 to make an entry to 2009 IPMS/USA National and I visitted the following four(4) Aviation Museums near Tennessee to study and photograph all external details of Tomcat during March-July 2008. (1)Aviation Museum of KY with F-14B (ex-VF-32), (2)Hickory Aviation Museum in NC with F-14D (ex-VF-31), (3)Southern Museum of Flight in AL with F-14A(ex-NSAWC), (4)Carolinas Aviation Museum in NC with F-14D (ex-VF-213). Fortunately enough, I had opportunities to climb up on the fuselages on two of the above four Tomcats to photograph details of upper surfaces of the fuselage and wings. In this webpage, I upload only the photos I took on top of the fuselage and wings. These photos were so useful when I scribed panel lines and rivets on my 1/32 Tomcat.

2009年のIPMS/USA National Convention(全米コンテスト)に出品すべく、2008年春からタミヤのF-14Aの制作を始めました。しかし、胴体や主翼の上面を鮮明に写した細部写真が雑誌等ではあまり見付からず、止む無く自分で撮影することにしました。またＡ型､Ｂ型､Ｄ型の細部差異を確認するため、住んでいたテネシーの近隣州にある４か所の博物館を回りＡ,Ｂ,Ｄ型を実機調査しました。その中で、２か所の博物館では、博物館側の特段のご好意により胴体上部に上がって胴体や翼の上面の細部写真を撮影することが出来ました。当ホームページではこれらの上面写真のみ以下に掲載致します。

With kind support of the museum management, I had a chance to climb up onto the fuselage with my camera and photograph all details of upper surfaces of the fuselage and the wing. This F-14D still retained original color and markings at the time of my visit.

この博物館には事前にメールを送り、このF-14Bの上面に登っての撮影を申請し、許可をいただきました。博物館に到着すると、既にF-14の右水平尾翼後端に脚立が用意されていて、そこから登りました。水平尾翼は小生が登って歩いてもビクともガタともせず、硬い感じでした。エスコートの館員さんも模型マニアで、小生の撮影には最大限の便宜を図ってくれました。機体上面以外にも細部写真を撮りましたが、さほど珍しくもないので当ページでは割愛します。当機は2005年10月にVF-32がVFA-32(F/A-18F)に改編されるまでVF-32で飛んでおり、その最後のマーキングをそのまま残しています（数枚を掲載しました）。

Unfortunately, color films I used at Hickory Museum were developped in wrong manners and many of the photos were finished with irregular colors. So, I use all these photos in black and white in this webpage. This F-14D(AJ-107 of VF-31) undertook the LAST official F-14 flight at NAS Oceana on 22SPT06. This F-14 still retained original color and markings at the time of the . LAST F-14 flight at NAS Oceana.

ここは田舎の飛行場に隣接する小さな博物館です。小生がF-14Dの細部写真を撮っていたら『あなたはモデラーか？』と博物館の説明員に聞かれました。YESと言ったら、いきなり『じゃあ機体の上に乗せてやるよ』と言ってｸﾙｰ搭乗用ハシゴを降ろしてくれました。上に乗ったら、今度は左主翼を２～３人がかりで手動で前方に動かしてくれました。よって、上左の写真の影を見ると、右と左で主翼の後退角が異なっています。航空ファン2006年12月号によるとこの機体は2006年９月22日にオシアナにおいてF-14の最終飛行を実施した(元々予備機であったがAJ-102の不調により飛んだ）記念すべき機体です。小生が以下写真を撮影したのは、その記念すべきフライトから１年５か月経過していますが、現役時の塗装とマーキング（VF-31)がそのまま残されています。胴体上面のリベットラインに沿って見られるグレーの濃さの違いはウエザリング塗装の参考になります。この時使ったカラーフィルムの現像が劣悪で色ムラがヒドかったため、ここでは大半を白黒写真にして掲載します。悪しからず。
