McDonnell (Mitsubishi) F-4EJ-Kai Phantom II

A total of 90 F-4EJs were converted and upgraded to F-4EJ-Kai from F-4EJ, and the first F-4EJ-Kai made its first flight on 17JUL84. A photo immediate above shows some external differences between F-4EJ and F-4EK-Kai. Externally, F-4EJ/EJ-Kai and the USAF F-4E look almost the same basically, however, speaking from the modellers view point, stencils all around the airframe are quite unique on the Japanese phantoms. Many of the stencils are described both in Japanese and in English, however many others of them are written only in Japanese or only in English.

日本人モデラーの方々にとっては、何も珍しくないF-4EJ改の細部写真ですが、海外のモデラーさん向けに、ここ数年以内に撮った写真を以下に貼り付けてあります。７０年代や８０年代には、さんざんF-4EJの写真を撮っていましたが、その当時小生はプラモ作りに全く興味が無かったので、その当時には細部写真を一切撮っておらず、とても悔やまれます。マーキングやステンシル類は現在（2019年）と比べて、当時はかなり違っていましたので。

301st SQ Special markings in 2019

The 301st Hikotai painted special markings on one of their aircraft #315 in 2019, and it was displayed at Hyakuri airshow on 01DEC19. The special marking derived from the tail marking of the 301st Hikotai, Shirokuno-gama or Tsukuba's frog with yellow muffler.

302nd SQ's BLACK SPECIAL

The 302nd Hikotai painted special markings on two of their aircraft #399(Black Special) and #428(White Special) in 2019, and they both were displayed at Hyakuri airshow on 01DEC19. These two special aircraft commemorated the final year of the F-4EJ-Kai operated by the 302nd Hikotai. The 302nd Hikotai made its final F-4EJ-Kai flight at Hyakuri on 19MAR19, and they moved from Hyakuri to Misawa soon after that. The 302nd is currently(DEC19) re-equipping with F-35A at Misawa.
