Piasecki H-21 Workhorse (Flying Banana)

I took walk-around photos of this ex-USAF HC-21B (Flying Banana) which was displayed at Pueblo Weisbord Aircraft Museum in Pueblo, Colorado in August 2013. The aircraft was natural metal overall and it was displayed in very good conditions in a display hangar. You can step on the cabin area and I was able to take some pictures of the cabin/cockpit details.

2013年8月にコロラド州デンバー郊外で開催されたIPMS National Conventionに参加した機会に、そこから車で３時間ほど南下したプエブロという町の空港内にある博物館（Pueblo Weisbord Aircraft Museum）へ行きました。そこで撮影したのがこのHC-21Bです。展示ハンガー内に保管されており、保存状態は良好でした。無塗装の機体であり、リベットやパネルラインの詳細が良くわかりました。展示効果を考えて、胴体下の着陸灯や衝突防止灯が点灯されていました。

#2) JASDF H-21B s/n.02-4756

Top photo(black & white) shows an ex-JASDF H-21B s/n.02-4756, which was displayed at Hamamatsu-South Air Base in August 1971. Forty two years later(in 2013), I pictured the same H-21B s/n.02-4756 at the JASDF's Hamamatsu Airpark, and I took some walk-around photos at that time. Ten H-21Bs were supplied by the USAF to the JASDF in 1960 and used as rescue helicopters until 1966. This H-21B(JASDF s/n.02-4756, USAF s/n.53-4398) is still preserved and displayed at Hamamatsu in fairly good condition. As you can see from the above two photos, there were a few small changes in between these two pictures.

上段の白黒写真は1971年8月に浜松南基地で撮影した空自のH-21B（756号機）です。それから42年後の2013年１月に、同じ756号機を浜松広報館で撮影しました。それが下段のカラー写真です。この２枚の写真を比較すると、この42年間に若干の改修が施された事がわかります。本機は退役してからもう50年以上経つはずですが、外観はかなりきれいに保たれています。何度も塗り替えられたんだと思います。 1971年に撮影した上の白黒写真を見ると、胴体後部下側の丸い大きな開口部はまだ空いていましたが、現在は塞がれてしまいました。因みに、本機のUSAFのシリアルは53-4398です。

#3) JGSDF Vertol 44A (H-21B) s/n.50002

I took walk-around photos of this ex-JGSDF V-44A(H-21B) which is displayed at Tokorozawa Aviation Museum in Saitama, Japan, in May 2013. Two V-44As were delivered to the JGSDF in 1959 with the serials 50001 and this 50002, and served until 1970-71, when they were replaced by KV-107. It has already been more than forty years after the retirement, but the aircraft is still preserved in fairly good conditions. The engine (Wright R-1820-103) of this V-44A(#50002) is also displayed in front of the aircraft.

所沢航空発祥記念館に展示されている元陸自のV-44A（0002号機）です。屋内に保管・展示されており、用途廃止から四十数年経った現在（2013年時点）でも保管状態は良好です。本機に装備されていたと言うエンジン（Wright R-1820-103）も機体の脇に展示されておりました。
